T he average person has many preconceived ideas about what Tantra is thus is basically ignorant. The average person assumes that it is all about sexual promiscuity, or sexual liberation and sexual freedom, the opposite of celibacy (brahmacharya). However in reality such opinions are very far away from the truth. Tantra and brahmacharya are two sides and two stages of one and the same way: Yoga So what is Brachmacharya and what is its role in the way of Tantra? Brachmacharya or celibacy is a method of reserving sexual energy. This does not just mean that sexual intercourse in the literal sense is stopped, it also necessitates the cessation of the sexual imagination, as well as all the other hidden and apparent forms that sexual energy manifests in, such as loose chatter, inner monologue, anxiety about the physical body, tension, negative emotions, vanity and the like.
Once a Yogi has mastered this art of controlling the sexual energy, he passes on to the second stage of the way which is Tantra. At this level he increases his energy by practicing a special technique to the point where the energy having no way of realizing itself in the lower levels, reaches up to the spiritual dimensions taking his consciousness with it. This is called the rising of Kundalini. Practiced separately these two stages will not give any result. We are talking about control of the energy, not asceticism or looseness and clearly not the fanatical following of religious canons or dogmatic following of ancient scriptures and texts without understanding their real meaning which is always much more simple and close to existential truths rather than mystical higher “truths” for few chosen ones.
Now we will move on to the esoteric aspect of the teaching. Kundalini Shakti, is not only a creative power of nature but a potent form of energy which can enslave an individual, subordinating his consciousness to the instincts given to his body by nature to fulfill the conscious aims of the Universe for its evolution. In truth man is born and lives to maintain a definite order in the Universe. He breeds offshoots of himself to provide nature and later also society with the energy and dynamism needed to sustain them. Once he has fulfilled this role and used up his energy he dies and passes over to the next incarnation to fulfill similar circles. Sexual energy is the highest power which exists in the human organism. When the natural urges such as the consumption of food, provision of warmth and so on are satisfied, other urges begin to stir in him and demand satisfaction. These are the most advanced desires such as sex, self expression, knowledge, understanding etc. All these activities are in fact connected with sexual energy, which manifests on different levels. The social environment has developed more and more advanced means of restricting all these manifestations of sexual energy in these more advanced levels and direct its expression in the external material world through the created networks of excessive consumption, culture, etc.
The Yogi understands the purposes and intentions of these instinctive and social mechanisms and therefore begins deliberately and consciously regulating the movement of Shakti in his organism. In this way he acquires his independence from both nature and society by developing from inside the control of energy. He can then start to direct and use this energy for his own spiritual perfection. It is a basic fact that the workings of the intellect, emotions and perception depend upon energy. When we control our sexual energy with our own will, we become free of its power over us. Then we can move beyond the world of illusion – Maya. What is Maya? It is the sum of all our limited perceptions and narrowness of mind.
Beside Shakti, which flows through nature (Prakritoshakti), there is another form called Paramashakti which is the Highest Spiritual Power – The Holy Spirit. The ordinary man who is weighed down with all his base and limited desires, or to be more exact the effects of the movement of Prakritoshakti in him, cannot touch upon Divine Spirituality. To reach up to these heights a man needs to attain complete inner harmony and peace of mind and heart, which come as a consequence of having controlled the waves of his lower instinctive energies. This development of the human organism and state of inner being can only be achieved through the practice of yoga. Yoga and all religions are not ends in themselves, enforcing orthodoxy and religious ceremony on people. When correctly understood they are the means to comprehending and experiencing the reality of the Highest Divine Power. When an individual reaches this point of clarity he becomes transformed from the crazed half-animal, half-human to a divine being, which is liberated from the boundaries and limitations of the material world. The Divine Power oversees the involution and evolution of all Nature. Any transformation is the result of the influence of Divine Power. It is only this power which can induce change in a man – he cannot change by himself. What he does have the power to do, however, is to start managing his lower energies and open himself up to the influence of Divine Paramashakti. These truths are generally known in religious philosophy, but they still remain only words and texts. Without practical and correct use these teachings remain remote and misunderstood. This is so because the power, once attained, is so great that if it were put in hands of an undisciplined man could destroy the entire world in a very short time. In accordance with the cosmic laws, only a few can grasp this power and freedom, otherwise the harmony of the universe would be disrupted.
So dear friend, you who is reading this text, you must know that you are a great soul. Take the chance in this life to attain freedom, to realize the meaning of your existence. Do not wait and waste your life because there is not so much time to understand the truth. And in the end only the soul remains. Be Blessed, Namaste!
